WE RIDE THE MARTA BUS is a 30 minute nonlinear film, and the moving image component of an ART PAPERS commission that first appeared in the July/August 2016 print issue. The film fans across the Metro Atlanta map into six vignettes that can be viewed in any order, and each one visits a different bus line. The point of view descends from the altitude of a geolocation satellite to intimate ground-level conversations, from panorama to human detail. MARTA riders, local and international, share stories about using the system. Collectively, they build a meditation on all forms of mobility — metropolitan, global, and economic.

Ruth Dusseault is an artist and filmmaker whose work documents utopian expressions as a reflection of the historic present. Her ongoing project, ECOTOPIA (published in ART PAPERS, Nov/Dec 2014 issue) documents communal life after the internet. It will be shown in a solo exhibition, THE CREATIVES, at Whitespace Gallery in Atlanta from August 3 – September 1, 2018. A retrospective exhibition, THE DETAIL AND THE PANORAMA, will be on view at the Georgia Institute of Technology’s Stubbins Gallery from August 27 – October 12, 2018 in Atlanta.
