NEW YORK ART BOOK FAIR (NYABF)

Art Papers is pleased to participate in Printed Matter’s 2026 New York Art Book Fair (NYABF), taking place at MoMA PS1 in Queens from September 24–27.

Art Papers’ booth (Booth P3) will feature the newly launched retrospective book, 50 YEARS of ART PAPERS, which tells the story of 5 decades of independent, artist-centered, and artist-produced criticism, anthologizing timely, timeless, or ahead-of-their ­time texts from the magazine’s history. This book captures the unique perspective of this geographically marginalized but culturally central publication—launching to the public at NYABF.

Also available—free to take—will be the final issue of ART PAPERS. This special issue, titled Fire Ecology, synthesizes a three-year project leading toward the organization’s conclusion in December 2026. It documents the Fire Ecology project and includes contributions by Be Oakley (GenderFail), Fawz Kabra and Isak Berbic (Brief Histories), Amy Miller, Jaedon Clarke MasonHeather Bird Harris, Cannupa Hanska Luger, Sarah Higgins, James Perkins, Jordan Eddy, Tempestt Hazel (Sixty Inches from Center), and Rinko Kawauchi.

Our booth will also include a selection from Art Papers’ back catalogue—a final opportunity to acquire rare, historically significant issues from our 50-year history—alongside limited-edition and artist-designed T-shirts, tote bags, and other merchandise.

ABOUT NYABF
Across four days, NYABF convenes a wide range of independent and institutional publishers; antiquarian booksellers presenting rare and historic works; contemporary galleries and nonprofit art spaces; and a thriving community of zine publishers whose experimental spirit continues to redefine the medium. The Fair also hosts a robust schedule of programs including book launches, lectures, exhibitions, music performances, and workshops.

The Fair hosts approximately 300 exhibitors from around the world, including a broad range of artists and collectives, small presses, institutions, galleries, antiquarian booksellers, and distributors. NYABF draws tens of thousands of visitors each year, including artists’ book professionals, high school and college students, and audiences from every corner of the cultural sector. NYABF 2026 coincides with the 50th anniversaries of Printed Matter, MoMA PS1, and Art Papers.

50 YEARS of ART PAPERS: Book Launch and Conversation
with Re’al Christian, Sarah Higgins, Dan R. Talley, and Emily Watlington

50 YEARS of ART PAPERS tells the story of 5 decades of independent, artist-centered, and often artist-produced publishing by tracing the work of the longest-running nonprofit art magazine in the US. The 440-page book anthologizes some of the most timely, timeless, and ahead-of-their-time texts from the past half-century of art criticism. Taken together, the selections present a rare view of independent art criticism over 50 years as viewed, locally and globally, from Southern perspectives. This event celebrates the launch of the book with co-editors Sarah Higgins (Art Papers Executive + Artistic Director) and Re’al Christian (writer, Art Papers Contributing Editor) in conversation with ART PAPERS co-founder Dan R. Talley, joined by moderator Emily Watlington (Art in America). Together, they explore how the story of the past half-century of artist-centered contemporary art writing and publishing can be told through ART PAPERS.
