Art Papers, an international contemporary art non-profit based in Atlanta, seeks a Managing or Associate Editor to join its rapidly
growing program/editorial department. Art Papers currently publishes ART PAPERS magazine—the source for contemporary art—and produces high-profile
public programs. This new position will support Art Papers' existing programs and the delivery of a number of new print, electronic, and conference
initiatives.
The Managing/Associate Editor will be part of a growing staff of smart, creative, and dedicated individuals who believe in the social
importance of the arts. The individual will report directly to the Editor-in-Chief and coordinate all phases of the production of six issues of
ART PAPERS magazine annually, and daily updates of ART PAPERS WEB. In addition, the individual will assist in the development of a number of
new program initiatives.
The Managing/Associate Editor has worked in a junior editorial position in a cutting-edge cultural institution for at least two years.
The individual is now looking for the opportunity to step onto the global stage with a stable and sustainable, yet fast-paced and rapidly growing
publisher.

and engaged discourse. This mission is implemented through the publication of ART PAPERS magazine and the presentation of public programs.

Leveraging the organization's enviable legacy, we will position ART PAPERS as a multi-faceted institution that connects various and expanding
international audiences by developing trailblazing contents and disseminating them in print, online, live, and beyond. ART PAPERS will breed new
and contesting ideas, foster engaged positions about art and the world, deliver groundbreaking and informed critical approaches, and incite artistic
experimentation by developing its audience through free, or low-cost, converging programs.
Duties Include:
Print and Electronic Publication support:
- acts as liaison between actual and potential contributors and editorial department;
- manages trajectory of solicited and unsolicited submissions for editor-in-chief;
- maintains a database of commissioned texts and compiles issue contents;
- oversees permissions and copyright;
- secures images, captions, checklists from authors, artists, galleries, and museums;
- ensures image and caption compliance;
- proofreads copyedited materials at the end of the publication process;
- consults with editors about house style, Chicago-style documentation, etc.
- coordinates delivery of complimentary copies and payments to contributors;
- ensures deadlines are met.
Database Management:
- maintains database of contact information for contributors and advertisers;
- compiles statistics for reports including number of submissions, percentages of acceptances and rejections, number of annual publications of articles, reviews, essays, and columns, geographic breakdown, and so on;
- maintains database of rights and permissions granted, payments received, and writer's payments.
Travel and Shipping Logistics:
- books travel and accommodation for guests, creative director, and editors;
- coordinates production and shipping of publication-related marketing materials;
- coordinates timely and economical delivery of magazines and other marketing materials to various events.
Advertising Support:
- maintains a database of existing and potential advertisers;
- supports Advertising Sales Executives by distributing materials as needed;
- ensures compliance with advertising policies and appropriateness of advertising materials.
Intern Supervision:
- sollicits and manages editorial internship applications;
- collaborates with Editor-in-Chief in hiring and supervision of interns.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in art history or a related field;
- Two years relevant experience in the coordination of print and electronic publications (including proofreading and copyediting);
- Demonstrable fluency in one or more foreign languages;
- Proficiency in Chicago-style documentation, and house-style compliance;
- Database, Word, Excel, PhotoShop, Quark, html, Acrobat, and web 2.0 proficiency;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Fluency in scholarly vocabulary, knowledge of academic footnoting and bibliography, ability to enter corrections in foreign languages with correct accents and presentation of translated material.
